With the importance of being environmentally and economically responsible, LED light bulbs are quickly becoming the new standard of future lighting. They are replacing CFLs left and right due to concerns about CFL bulbs 
containing mercury. Fortunately, LED light bulbs for home or office usage are here to stay and this is evidenced by support from the government. The U.S. Department of Energy hosted a competition called the L-Prize, awarding $10 million dollars to the first company to manufacture a 60W bulb replacement with at least 900 lumens brightness and drawing no more than 10 watts. The color temperature also needed to be within 2700-3000 Kelvin, giving off that warm yellow glow we are all used to. Well, Philips won the first prize with their entry of their AmbientLED products!

One of the primary advantages of LED light bulbs is their energy efficiency. Ideally, they only draw up to 15 watts. Of course, Philips AmbientLED LED light bulbs really shine as they only use 12.5 watts! There are actually some YouTube videos floating around that try to disprove this. However, it has been proven that the watt meters these reviewers were using are not appropriate or accurate when testing the intermittent power draw of LED light bulbs…not to mention the stringent tests Philips had to pass to win the $10 million dollar prize from the U.S. Department of Energy.

The Philips AmbientLED LED light bulb is quite unique looking as it doesn’t even look that much like a light bulb…yet it glows with a very pleasing color and plenty of brightness. The lumen output is truly impressive while maintaining that warm orange glow we have all grown accustomed to with incandescent bulbs. An unfortunate reality is that these LED light bulbs are a bit pricey. However, the longevity of the bulb must be considered as it offsets some of the initial investment. The Philips Ambient LED bulb lasts up to 22 years and maybe even longer and this is simply mind-boggling. Imagine not having to ever change your light bulbs! Along with knowing you are reducing your carbon footprint and helping the environment, it’s nice to know your purchase will last so long.
One feature that many people overlook is the value of having a dimmable, energy efficient bulb. Unfortunately, CFL’s (compact fluorescent light) never supported this ability and it was sorely missed. Now, it has been attempted, but when dimmed, the CFLs give off a loud and annoying buzz. LED light bulbs dim perfectly with no flicker or buzz. This is just one more feature of the amazing Philips AmbientLED LED light bulbs.
The Philips AmbientLED light bulb circuitry is just so impressive. To generate such brightness with around 10 watts is just amazing, not to mention handling heat dissipation. There is also a cool element to owning these LED light bulbs, not to mention being a great conversation piece.
It is good to know that LED lighting has finally arrived and is here to stay. This really is an investment in the future and is available to enjoy right now. Try not to view this purchase as being that of an early adopter. Instead, look at LED light bulbs as the new standard as the federal government’s support has demonstrated.
